Niknik like many Jawas was surviving on the fringe of nowhere. But that's when he tried to steal from the wrong Twilek. Dib almost didn't even notice the thief picking his pocket, almost. But instead of blasting him, Dib decided to offer him a job. Dib was known for his "Slight of Hand" dealings in the criminal underworld but a Rebel Quartemaster / Gambler could always use a thief that could go anywhere unnoticed and disappear into any crowd in the blink of an eye.
